The young Lions Team gave the good Thanet team a test in a lively game

The young Lions Team gave the good Thanet team a test in a lively game . The forwards having gained good ground and possession from a line-out and set scrum, Mitch Halpin broke left from the scrum ,the ball was passed quickly and Matt Woods scored a good try .

Thanet came back well and in the match scored 6 tries, many from well-worked attacks, and all were converted, giving them a very good score .

Henry Evans kicked a penalty for the Lions and the final 15 minutes of the game witnessed a series of excellent scrums, very quick passing and running and two more tries were scored by Woods and Clifton . A rousing roar from the Lions !

As a summary of the Season, this Second Team is very young , with nine of the Team being 17 years old, and they have matured and realized that they can compete with older and bigger opponents but a mastery of the basic skills of tackling , passing and forward play is required .
The pity for the Club is that many of these young men will go off to university away from Deal and most will not return, as there are not the good jobs for them . East Kent does not have the advantages of the clubs of Mid and West Kent, where many university graduates return home and work in Greater London and continue to play for their clubs . It is a penalty we suffer in the East .

Nevertheless, we will continue to strive and plan for next Season !
