The two teams looked even in the early exchanges and Sammy Johnson, unusually playing at Scrum-Half took time to settle . The forwards contested strongly but a poor pass allowed the Ashford Fly-Half to go through for an easy interception and eventually they scored a try .
The Lions responded well and Mitch Halpin made some typically strong runs and went over for a try from a penalty which was converted .
Dan Atkinson arrived and brought some power to the pack . Again, Halpin went strongly for the line from a series of rucks on the Ashford line to score another try .
Ross Wakefield had to leave the field with an injury and Pete White came on as prop . Wes Bull made a welcome return at No 8 .
Ashford started the second half with a good try as a result of quick passing . The Lions pack, under the direction of Bull at No 8 responded with some strong scrums and gained a pushover try .
The rest of the game continued in much the same vein and Bull scored a good try from the base of a ruck .
A good game from a team which is a mixture of experienced players and youngsters .
