In fact, the Team played the whole game with only 14 men, and they gave their all against a good side . The Gravesend Thirds are a strong , experienced side and they claim that they are the most successful in their Club !
The strength of the Home side was their good pack of forwards and they gained good possession, their backs ran well and the support play and ‘off-loading’ was very good .
After a period of settling-down , the Lions began to challenge Gravesend . The backs in particular, of whom McLachlan, Topping, Rowarth and Ward were the main attackers, did well and made good ground . However, Gravesend managed to hold out against them and launched telling counter-attacks, which resulted in tries .
At half-time, the Home side led by 22 points .
The second half began in much the same fashion, but some silly mistakes gave away soft tries and the score mounted . Again, there were some good attacks by the Lions backs and Halpin made some good , small kicks into space , but the defence held .
The Lions pack battled manfully, but were out-played .
The game ended in a large victory for Gravesend and the Lions will welcome them back to Walmer in the New Year .
