The Lions had a strong side , led from the front by Gary Dixon at Hooker.
Canterbury opted to kick a penalty in the first 5 minutes and despite the Lions having good possession and territorial gains, their final passes went to ground. Canterbury, in contrast, quickly scored two tries and at Half-time the score was 15 - nil to the Home side, but had two players sent-off on yellow cards.
The Lions started the second half well and this time a try was scored. Canterbury responded with a penalty to bring the score to 22-7 However, the Visitors stepped-up their game and scored two more tries but then again, Canterbury kicked a penalty to bring the score to 25-17.The Lions scored another try and just failed to score yet another, which would have won the match and Canterbury just held on for the victory .
The Lions side played very well, with some splendid rugby and plenty of zeal . The Captain scored two tries and Halpin and Hursey also scored . Sammy Johnson at Fly-half played well but it would be invidious to highlight any others of a good Team . A really good display .
