On a wet and dismal afternoon the Lions started cautiously and the two packs of forwards tested each other and proved to be quite evenly matched .
The Aylesford backs did not use the possession to advantage and some good defence from the Lions, for which Fly-half Jack Browne was effective, put them under pressure . From a good ‘charge-down’ of an Aylesford clearance kick, Adam Michael went over for a good try, which was converted by Connor Moss .
Aylesford pressed hard in the forwards and the Lions were penalised for failing to release the ball . The Home side kicked the penalty .
Despite the attentions of the experienced and strong Aylesford front row, the Lions gained good line-out ball with good catching by Alistair Doyle and from a thrust down the left wing, Carl Thatcher went over in the corner for a try . Score : 12 – 3 to The Lions .
In the second half, the mist from the river threatened to mask much of the play . Soon after the play resumed , Michael went over for a good try from a break through the centre . Good work by the pack gave the Lions backs room to move and a good long pass to Connor Moss resulted in a strong run and he came off his left foot to run in a try near the posts, which he converted .
After more line-out and scrummaging pressure , prop Eoin McGrath drove through for a try . It was converted .
A good victory and there were encouraging signs which it is hoped will be continued in the next game at Home against Ashford .
