On a mainly dry but blustery day, the Lions started brightly and pressured Medway into making mistakes, which were capitalised on by the backs

After some good rucking and driving , which 'tied-in' the Medway defence, the Lions backs started to make some headway .

Sheehan at fly-half and Hart ran at the defence and the pressure brought results . After a sustained drive on the Visitors' line, Bull went over for a try . The subsequent conversion by Sheehan was excellent in the strong cross-wind .

After a similar assault on the Medway line, Chamberlain scored another try, but the conversion was narrowly missed .

Play went to and fro, with some kicks by Medway being run back by the wingers, until Sheehan cut through with a delightful side-step to score a good try . Unfortunately, his ankle was damaged in an awkward fall and he had to leave the field . Robinson converted .
Harrington came into the back-row and Michael moved out to the backs .
The adjusted back division did well, with Hart and Michael putting in some good tackles . After another bout of forward play, Bull drove over for a second try .

After half-time, Medway played with much greater purpose and did not make as many mistakes . They took the game to the Lions and after a series of rather strange decisions by the referee, they drove over for a try near the posts, which was converted .

Medway continued to have a good share of the ball and the good defence of the Lions kept them at bay, with Hart, Harrington and Chamberlain making excellent tackles . However, the pressure told and Medway went over for another try .

McGrath replaced Adcock in the front row and was quickly into the defence .

The Lions started to assert pressure again at the end and a penalty kick was blown just wide. The game was an interesting contest .
