Lewes , for several years, have had a team that is adept in counter-attack and the games between the two teams are always quite tight .
Lewes made a bright start and the Lions again showed their mettle with good defence . The game flowed, with both sides attacking well and finally the adept Lions pack forced the opposition to concede and Dan Atkinson touched down for a try .
John Sheehan kicked a good conversion from out wide .
Again the even battle resumed until Sheehan again kicked a good penalty conversion and the Lions led 10 – nil at Half-time.
After the interval, the game continued in the same vein, but far too many kicks from hand by the Lions’ backs failed to find touch or open ground and Lewes, as always, ran the ball back in attack . Their determination finally resulted in a try after a sustained period near the Lions’ line . This was converted .
Sheehan kicked another good penalty to extend the lead and this proved to be important .
Personnel changes were made to both sides and the game continued with intensity .
Lewes attacked with a conventional move and their inside centre cut through a gap in the hitherto good back defence to score by the posts . This was not converted .
The Lions attacked again and Armstrong came close to finishing a good move down the touchline, but it was defeated by good tackling .
Lewes were given a penalty at the end of the game , but the kick went awry and eventually the contest ended with the narrow win for the Home side .
Again, a good, well-contested game. The Court Yard Man of the Match was awarded to John Harrington
