For the first 15 minutes it looked as though the Home side would score and take control of the game . However, Warlingham gained a penalty, in front of the posts, but 5 yards within their own half . The Fly-half duly made good use of the cold, easterly wind and so the Visitors went ahead, against the run of play .
The game ebbed and flowed, but eventually the Lions got a penalty and John Sheehan converted . Again , there was some good forward play, with the pack securing good scrums and getting clean line-out ball .
One particular piece of play showed that the Front Row trio can make a break with the ball and inter-pass well . This was very good to see .
After more pressure on the Visitors’ line, Adam Michael broke quickly from a penalty and scored a try . Then Josh Jensen at Fly-half broke on a weaving run and scored an excellent try, which was converted .
The Warlingham Fly-half kicked another good long-range penalty .
At half- time ,the Lions led by 15 -6 .
The Visitors obviously had a stern half-time talk, as their pack, which had some big ,strong players, attacked very hard and the Lions had to defend for long periods near their line . Eventually, a try was scored , which rewarded the pressure and it was converted .
The Lions came back quickly and scored a good converted try due to strong scrummaging and driving by the pack.
Again, Warlingham reacted fiercely and again after a sustained period of forward pressure, scored a try, which was converted .
The Lions scored again through some quick work by Adam Michael after more good work by the pack and the Team held on to the advantage until the final whistle .
This was another good game , well refereed , and shows that the Lions are beginning to improve after the rather weak pre- Christmas period . There is more work to be done, but the progress is encouraging .
It was a pleasure to see the Warlingham Committee members and their strong support team and we look forward to seeing them again next season .
