The Lions came from behind to edge out Old Alleynians and coach Wiggins admits they are finding their feet after losing their opening two matches.
He said: “This is a competitive division and it has been for a number of seasons. There are no weak sides, any win you get is hard earned and on Saturday it was our defence which got us through.
“What we said (to the players) afterwards is that we didn’t think we played particularly well but we did what we set out to do.
“We’re happy with where we are, we’re ticking over nicely.”
Old Alleynians had the first points on the board courtesy of a try from Joshua Fricker but Deal/Bettes hit back with a Connor Moss penalty.
Hooker Matt Curd finished off a lineout drive for a try converted by Moss and fellow front row man Sam Hanley popped up at the end of an excellent handling move to complete the home scoring.
Ed Nethersole kept the visitors in the hunt with a hat-trick of penalties but with skipper Adam Michael leading by example, Deal hung on to follow up the previous week’s four-point win at Crowborough.
Eighth-placed Deal face metropolitan opposition again on Saturday when they travel to second-placed Old Colfeians – who have won three of their four matches – and Wiggins is confident they can be
competitive.
He added: “We are in a good place. There are a few things we can tighten up but there’s nothing to be negative about. We’ve got two wins now and we need to keep it going.”
