On a cold but bright day, on a good pitch, Charlton Park won narrowly by two converted tries to two tries
The Park team started very well and in very quick time the speedy and elusive right wing scored a good try near the posts from a mazy run , aided by some poor tackling by the visiting team .
After recovering from this early shock, The Lions responded with some driving play against a big and useful pack and Martin Robinson went over for a try near the touchline . Connor Moss, who was playing at Fly-half in place of the injured John Sheehan, narrowly missed the conversion .
The game continued at a good pace, with both sides by this time playing some good attacking rugby against good defence. The scrummages were well-contested , but unfortunately the allowance of ‘crooked feed’ by the referee negated good work by the front rows .
Some of the Lions kicking did not go where it was intended and the Park Fly-half, a skilful South African, initiated some good counter passing . However, the Lions defence held well and the danger was quelled .
The second half continued in the same vein, and a lapse allowed the Park to score again near the posts and the try was converted .
Again the Lions countered and Luke Armstrong burst through the Park defence and scored a good try .
The Lions continued to press but the Park held them at bay .
A good Intermediate Cup match , played in the correct manner by two sides who were keen to contest .
