

Deal opened the game with a strong defensive effort against Gravesend’s powerful and physical pack. Despite their resilience, a misplaced pass gifted Gravesend an early opportunity, which they capitalised on to score the first try of the match.
The next 20 minutes were fiercely contested, with momentum swinging back and forth. Gravesend applied intense pressure, forcing Deal deep into their own half, but Deal’s resolute defence held firm, drawing numerous penalties and successfully clearing their lines.
Deal’s first try came after a period of sustained attacking play that drew Gravesend’s pack in tight. Spotting an opportunity, Jonathan Mattison executed a pinpoint cross-field kick into open space. James Wallace chased it down superbly, sliding over the try line by the flag to level the score.
Gravesend responded with another try, regaining the lead. However, Deal struck back with a well-crafted play following a kick-out and turn-over. A cleverly disguised move by Max Veere sliced through Gravesend’s defensive line, leading to a crucial try that brought the score level once again.
Gravesend’s forwards continued to apply pressure, drawing Deal’s defence into the breakdown. This left an overlap on the wing, which Gravesend exploited effectively to reclaim the lead.
As the first half drew to a close, Deal found themselves with a lineout deep in Gravesend’s territory. A swift passing move across the field saw Sam Kenicer distribute the ball wide before it was worked back inside. Max Veere finished the move with a decisive run across the try line, levelling the match at halftime.
After the break, Gravesend introduced fresh legs, shifting the game in their favour. Despite Deal’s resilient defensive efforts, a series of powerful runs saw Gravesend cross the line three times, putting the match out of reach.
Refusing to capitulate, Deal continued to battle. In the closing moments, Aston Armstrong seized an opportunity from the back of a scrum inside Gravesend’s 22. Showing great perseverance, he powered his way over the try line to secure Deal’s fourth try of the match.
Although the final score favoured Gravesend, Deal’s resilience and attacking flair ensured a hard-fought contest that showcased their grit and tenacity.
