With four tries on the board, three conversions and a bonus point to bring home, there were plenty of positives for the Deal & Betteshanger lads, even if the final result wasn't quite what they were hoping for. Sam Hanley was the first Lion to get his name on the scoresheet, crossing the whitewash to get the visitors up and running. Not to be outdone, Jack Morgan followed with the Lions' second try, showing that the boys hadn't travelled all the way to Gillingham just to make up the numbers. Luca Twyman was next to get in on the action, adding a third try as the Lions continued to keep the pressure on their hosts. And when Ben Locket went over for try number four, the Lions had secured themselves a well-earned bonus point. With Connor Moss adding three conversions, the Lions finished with a very respectable 26 points. Unfortunately, Gillingham managed to find five more, which rather spoiled the afternoon! There was no shortage of effort from the Lions, who kept battling and refused to let the home side have things all their own way. Scoring four tries away from home is no mean feat, and the lads can certainly take plenty of encouragement from their attacking performance. Man of the Match went to Connor Moss, who had a cracking afternoon with the boot, slotting three conversions and making a valuable contribution to the Lions' performance. At the final whistle, it was Gillingham Anchorians who took the honours, 31–26, but the Lions could head back down the A2 knowing they'd given their hosts a proper game. A frustrating result, perhaps, but plenty of good rugby, four tries and a bonus point to show for the afternoon. A few things to work on, no doubt, but if the Lions can keep finding the try line like this, the wins won't be far away. Well played, lads. On to the next one!
