Deal & Betteshanger U13s faced a familiar foe in Beckenham

?️On a wet and muddy pitch, Deal & Betteshanger U13s faced a familiar foe in Beckenham — a side that had come out on top in all previous encounters. With a couple of recent additions to the squad, D&B went into the game full of confidence and determined to turn the tide ?

The opening exchanges were understandably scrappy as both teams adjusted to the slippery ball and two aggressive defensive lines. It was Deal & Betteshanger who struck first, however, thanks to sharp thinking and intent ⚡ Number 10 Jonjo intercepted a pass around the halfway line, put on the afterburners, and powered through to score the opening try of the match ?

Strong work from fullback James under the high ball helped D&B dominate first-half territory and possession, but that control didn’t translate into points. Beckenham capitalised with a try against the run of play, meaning the teams went into the break locked level ⏸️

The second half saw Deal & Betteshanger maintain their intensity ? The pack took control, repeatedly camping in the Beckenham half and building pressure through multiple phases. After a couple of near misses, that pressure finally told when Ronnie Victory crashed over to finish a well-worked multi-phase move, giving D&B a deserved lead with around 15 minutes to play ?
As fatigue set in on the heavy surface, discipline slipped slightly, allowing Beckenham a foothold back into the game. They made it count with a well-executed try with just two minutes remaining to level the scores once again ⏱️

Despite a spirited final push from the Lions ?, there was no late winner. While the result may not have gone their way, the performance was one every player should be proud of and demonstrated the continued progress this group is making ?

✨ Special mention to debutant Adz, who delivered an outstanding first performance in a D&B shirt. Showing great composure, work rate, and commitment throughout, he looked right at home from the first whistle — a superb debut and an exciting addition to the squad ?
