Saturday 6th April - D&B RFC Sponsors Lunch

By Steve Castle

We hosted our 2018-19 Sponsors Lunch at the Drill Field on Saturday 6th April.

A well attended event with over 80 sponsors and guests sitting down to a delicious lunch, a collaboration by Stephaine Febery & her team with Peckish. The meal was preceeded by a Welcome address from Club President Dave Rose Snr and Director of Sponsorship Richard Barker, thanking all our Sponsors for their valued support .
Our guest speaker Mark Regan MBE gave an after dinner speech, an open and humerous account of his career playing Rugby for Bath,Bristol, Leeds Tykes, England (including being part of the 2003 winning World Cup squad) and the British and Irish Lions.
The meal was followed by an Auction of Signed England Photos. Mark Regan was the Auctioneer ably assisted by Nadine Maynard of Peckish. Proceeds were split between Mark's nominated charity and the club.
The guests along with further spectators were then able to watch the last 1st XV league game against Aylesford. The Lions finished on a high with another victory and a 4 try winning bonus point which catapulted them above Thanet Wanderers by one point finishing 7th in the League.
We also had a raffle to raise funds for the Club.
The celebrations continued late into the night with Live Music from David Shepherd who got the crowd dancing and singing along to his great acoustic set.

A special mention should go to all the Bar Staff who put in an amazing shift to keep everyone well watered..... the fridges and the Cellar were looking decidedly bare by the end of the night!

Further thanks to Karen Rice for the pre-planning & organisation.

This was another great day for the club...
